When and Why did you first start CrossFit?

I kept hearing about CrossFit for months from Erica … how great it is and that I should really give it a try.  I finally caved by the end of June 2016 and tried my first class.  Let’s just say it kicked my ass!!!  But I still signed up for On Ramp with Charly and never looked back

Why doing you keep doing it, what keeps you coming back?

Full Metal CrossFit is one of my happy places!!!

Mainly, I keep coming back because CrossFit kicks my ass all the time… but in a good way!  And it’s never boring.  I’m someone who does not like routine, and needs a constant challenge to keep me interested.  I love that our WODs are always different, and that we have great coaches and an awesome community to support us.

Seeing my progress in tangible ways is also very encouraging.  I cross-country ski and run as well.  Thanks to CrossFit, I have more strength and endurance to push myself on the x-ski trails and on my runs.  This past 2017 winter, my glide was so much faster and I was stronger making it up the hills.  After a 6 month hiatus to focus on CrossFit, I returned to running in the spring.  My pace and stamina has improved considerably.  So in August, I decided to move up to the 10K running group.

What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?

Two things:

  1. Focus on yourself and don’t get hung up on what everyone else is doing around you.  The coaches are there to help you succeed and will scale WODs as needed.  I still have SO MUCH to improve and to try, but I’m better than I was 1 year ago.  You will get better too!

2. Track your progress!!!  I started this 10 months too late … lol!  But since I’ve been tracking, I can see my progress and it pushes me to go further.

Top 3 favourite movements:  Deadlifts, back squats, tie between thrusters & wall balls

Top 3 least favourite movement: Burpees, burpees and burpees!!!  I hate those things!
