When and Why did you first start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in April of 2016 after finally giving into the pressure of my friend Victoria. She knew I would love the competitive yet fun nature of CrossFit and she was right. I also wanted to reignite my love of fitness, challenge myself in new ways and get back in touch with that part of me who loves being active.

Why doing you keep doing it, what keeps you coming back?

So many things keep me coming back to CrossFit:
First and foremost the community! I have never felt so welcomed to be a part of something. I have made so many new friends for which I am eternally grateful. Dennis, our owner, strives and succeeds at making FMCF feel like a second home and a second family. The changes I am seeing in my own strength level and my body shape. I love how strong I am becoming and that I no longer have a flat a$$! The fact that I don’t have to think about my workout programming. I come in and everything is ready to go! So different from those days I spent wandering at the gym waiting for a treadmill or doing some light bicep curls. Lastly, there is always something to learn and every month I see improvement. I love setting annual goals for movements I want to learn or improve on. 2018 is the year I will finally get Toes to Bar! When I started I could barely hang on a bar and the personal progress is very gratifying.

What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?

Don’t be scared! Every single one of us has stood at the threshold of the gym and thought…what have I gotten myself into, I can’t do this, I’m not strong enough for this. Just as you are thinking all of this on that first day someone will come over and introduce themselves. That’s when you know CrossFit truly is different and amazing. All of us want you to know you have gotten yourself into something great, you can do this, and you will become strong enough for this!

We all start somewhere and all the movements can be modified to your needs and abilities. Just try it, I promise you’ll like it!

Top 3 favourite movements:  Deadlifts, wall balls, kettlebell swings

Top 3 least favourite movement: Ring dips, double unders (no one should inflict that much pain on themselves), and did I mention ring dips?
