When and Why did you first start CrossFit?

I began CrossFit just before Christmas of 2012. I had heard about it from a few people and had done some CrossFit-style training while playing tackle football and it interested me. Also, my husband Blake found the gym and signed us up for a free class together so I decided to check it out.

Why doing you keep doing it, what keeps you coming back?

I’ve played almost every sport and tried many different workout routines and CrossFit is the only thing that I plan my weeks around being able to do. It’s probably the competitiveness of it that keeps me coming back, not only with myself, but with my close friends in the gym and other boxes as well. I also love how you can be having a completely terrible day, but doing a WOD or completing a heavy lift suddenly makes you feel so much better.

What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?

First, do not be intimidated!  Even as an athlete who thought of themselves as being in good shape before starting CrossFit-I was extremely humbled by all the amazing people in the gym when I first started. I loved how nobody ever looked at me and expected me to be a certain way; I was accepted and welcomed just like everyone else.  Secondly, don’t get too caught up in not being good at certain things at first…we all sucked at a lot of skills when we first started, but yet we all kept coming back because eventually we could RX those same movements
