When and Why did you first start CrossFit?

I started CrossFit In April 2015.  I had been going to a regular gym off and on for a few years, I would be motivated for the first couple of months and then I would find every excuse in the book not to go.  A friend of mine had been doing it for a couple of months and said I should try it.  So, I attended the family and friend’s day, the whole way their I felt like I was going to throw up, I am a very competitive person so after taking part in the WOD I knew this is for me.   Until the following day, I wasn’t so sure.  I could barely walk.   I signed of the On-Ramp Program with Charly the next day.   I haven’t looked back since.

Why doing you keep doing it, what keeps you coming back?

There are so many reason I keep coming back, I only list a few.   I lost 30lbs + in my first 7 months of starting CrossFit, that was what kept me coming back at first, again with my competitive back ground seeing myself improve not only with the movements but in the cardio parts as well overall feeling better about myself.   The Coaches and members are truly amazing and always push you to your limits, this is something you can’t get at a normal gym and something I truly need.  Shout out to my 6am Crew.  They push me every day to be better, I like to think I do the same for them.   The Programming is always on point.  I never have to worry about trying to figure out what I am going to do when I get there.    Oh the biggest reason is trying to catch Shannon on the wall of Fame.

What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?

If I had to give advice to someone new starting CrossFit it would be this:   Start with the On-Ramp program, this is where you will learn your lifts and you will also get to see what it’s all about.   The other thing I would say is to never watch what others are doing.  Just focus on yourself and what your abilities are.  Because there are always going to be people with Faster times and/or heavier lifts but just make sure you are always showing up ready to put the work in and you will find your own success.  So, in other words don’t leader board watch.   This is going to be very hard to do if you are competitive like me.  But if I would have done this during my first class I wouldn’t have come back.   I got it handed to me by everyone in the class.
